Docs as code / static site generators have been a fad for long enough
that I think usage is declining outside of API documentation and other
contexts where that's the best choice, though I'm still seeing docs
with hundreds of topics displayed as a single long hard-to-navigate
column. For example:

Andrew Etter's an enthusiastic booster of that fad. If he'd had more
than one tech writing gig before writing it he might have recognized
that it's not the right tool for every project.
