Many years ago I did documentation for a VERY large corporation's Global Windows Server Team that managed hundreds of Windows computers. The team members used standard administrator-level tools built into Windows to log in via their laptops to servers all over the world. If you know any IT workers, you might be able to get some insight into the types of tools they use. I think those tools were all from Microsoft and free of charge.

Best Regards,

Mike

Hello, WR-L-ers,
Anyone have a recommendation for a substitute for GoToMyPC?
I've been happily using it for many years to administer my Mom's
computer and to help her out. But with their acquisition by LogMeIn,
they've gone into extreme price gouging mode: an increase from
$59.80/machine to $229.92/machine -- yes, almost 400%. But out of the
goodness of their heart, they're offering a 40% discount to existing
customers, so only $133.92/machine.
I need something that runs in the background on Mom's Windows 10
machine (so that she doesn't have to figure out how to start it, and so
that I don't need her to be present when I want to access it for
managing updates and the like), that I can use from my Windows 10
machine. So I think the regular join.me and logmein are out?
I found a bunch of alternatives on these pages:
[1]https://www.splashtop.com/compare-gotomypc-alternative,
[2]https://alternativeto.net/software/gotomypc/, and
[3]https://www.topbestalternatives.com/gotomypc/, so lots to choose
from.
Free isn't necessary; I'm happy to pay for software, especially if it
saves me time configuring things and training Mom. I'm just not willing
to fork over $$ to a company that tries to foist such a giant increase
on users, without even a reasonable explanation.
Thanks for your advice,
-Monique
