I'm confused... are you talking about AUTHORING in some kind of responsive interface that keeps auto-adjusting the topic page width when you insert screen shots, and this bothers you?

Or are you talking about trying to get screen shots of a responsive product that are all the same width?

We are beginning work on a new, responsive web application, and I'm getting some topics ready for the launch. I might live in a bubble, but to this point all my docs have been for windowed products, and I haven't had to worry about how responsiveness affects the illustrations.

We have an audience that is accustomed to having many illustrations in the docs. As I'm working on these first articles, though, it's driving me slightly mad that the illustrations don't have at least the same width within the topic. (I start a topic with an illustration of the beginning point, then add an option and ... now the screen wants to be wider.) Is this not a thing that bugs anyone else? Do you have a grid as your desktop background image so that you can line things up and achieve some standard that way? Any advice is welcome. I'm using an online application (MindTouch) for the docs.

Thanks for any insights you can share.
