To change the indent properties of bullets and numbered lists, and to make
them behave you have to select the bullet or number, right click and edit
the Adjust List Indents properties there. Editing it anywhere else doesn't
stick. This is usually found when you change the first line in the next set
of bullets/numbers and the indent changes.

There is also a setting in Styles -> Modify to Automatically Update, turn
that option off. If you bold the entire para, it sees it as a change to the
properties of the Style. If you want to bold the text, select all of the
para, except the para marker.

I've been wrestling with Word for 6 months straight now creating Styles and
templates, after years with FM.
For the last 3 days, I've been wrestling with styles. In effect, my issue
is, when I define a style, I want it to stay defined exactly how I defined
it. I don't want to have it indent on me, If I define a bullet with a .25
indent, I want it to STAY indented .25 and not change on me. If I make a
line a bullet, I don't want the whole F'ing document to turn bullet.
