We just hired a contractor who stipulated that she would be out for several
days because she is going to Dallas. She may be working some on nights or
weekends if the deadlines get tight, but we would expect that anyway. Good
contractors are hard to find; I think you'll be okay if you present the
conference as an opportunity for professional development.
