RE:So what do tech writers DO anyway.

Well a technical writer can wear a million different hats, so let me tell you
about a few I have worn. I graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology
with a BS in Technical communication. I got my first job at Computer Sciences
Raytheon at Cape Canaveral and Patrick Air Force Base. While there I worked on
operations documents for the eastern range. This consisted of polling and
collecting various data from the program managers, range officers, and Air Force
controlers. The tech pubs department would compile the information into a
missions and mission pahse specific document which was used by the launch

I now work at Harris Corporation's Electronic Systems Sector-Air Traffic Control
Systems Division. Here I write and edit test procedures for the Voice Switching
Communications System (the system the FAA bought to replace the old
communication systems in the nation's airports). The work is very similar to
that at CSR. I collect and compile engineers site specific test information and
combine it into a single logical test document. I oversee it's editing,
coordination, and production.

I could go into more detail but I'll quit now. If you want to, drop me a line.
