I'd like to get a feeling for staffing patterns and workload
of other technical communications departments.
Specifically, how many writers, illustrators, word
processors, and proofreaders/editors are in your
departments?

At Easel/ENFIN, we have 2 editors, 1 (primarily) online help
writer, 4 (soon to be 5) "regular" writers (who also do some
editing and online help work), and 1 manager. We do our own
illustration, mostly.

We don't have the kind of metrics you're looking for (or at
least I don't).

We all do a little of everything. There are two main
product lines, with MANY sub-projects within those lines.
And no, it's not really sufficient -- we occasionally have
to cut back on our expectations.

I have been the sole writer managing three active product
lines before, for a library automation company. They
replaced me with another sole writer.

Is that the kind of information you were looking for??
