Jim,
if your friend is willing to port the file into Word for Windows,
the grammar checker there will provide
Flesch Reading Ease
Flesch Grade Level
Flesch-Kincaid
Gunning Fog Index

The grammer checker is "CorrecText"(r) Grammar Correction System,
licensed from Houghton Mifflin. It suggests changes based on rules,
and your friend may want to check/change the rules -- else plan to
be patient while it attempts to enforce them. After scanning the
entire document, it presents the aforementioned statistics.

BTW mine is WfW v2.0 (not the latest).
