I have noticed that about many--maybe MOST--mass market
articles about the net. I have 2 theories:

a. The reporters feel inadequate because they don't
understand--and therefore fear--what's going on "out there".
Hence the disparaging tone in some of the articles.

b. The reporters don't understand--and therefore can't
adequately explain--net interactions.

I have spent almost 10 years working on the net, starting
out as a rank amateur with barely any computer experience.
Today I make my living writing, teaching, and doing research
about computers (4 platforms so far, and counting), networks,
and the people who use them. I am just NOW starting
to get a feel for what's going on.
Reporters need to jump in and do it.
