"As the forest is logged of its pines, the decrease of its 'confierousness
over time and location can be useful for visual display and analysis, and
ultimately a better managed forest may result."

I don't know whose query this was (I can't read the original posting because
something wrong with my LAN software this weekend) but I picked it up from
Carol Roberts reply.

I wonder if the major point here isn't the use of visual display/analysis. I
suggest rewording to make that the subject of the sentence:

Visual display and analysis of the types and location of trees in the forest
can, over time, show how logging the pines causes a decrease in conifers.
This type of analysis might ultimately lead to a better managed forest.
