Marc Paquette asked for a suggestion for a
costume party; he wanted to go as a famous
technical communicator.

Marc suggested Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes' pal.

Does he have to be fictional?

What about Samuel Finley Breese Morse, (1791-1872),
the American portait painter and inventor who patented the
telegraph and invented Morse code?
