In Victorian times, ladies were "at home to" visitors on certain days.
Their friends and acquaintances would come to call at specific times on
those days. The hostess might provide tea and cakes.

The application of the same phrase to a hockey game is quaint and ironic,
but correct. Few hockey games are ever "a piece of cake" to the visiting
