Follow-up to Distributing Wingdings characters to customers

Subject: Follow-up to Distributing Wingdings characters to customers

Thanks to all those who responded to my question. I would thank you all
personally but my In box become corrupted and I lost all my messages.

Those who responded agreed, if I can remember, that distributing the symbols
under a different font name, without Microsoft's approval, wouldn't be legal.
As luck would have it, we can use the Wingdings font after all, so we don't
have to ask for Microsoft's approval. (One of our programmers told me this
two days after I posted this message.)

In the event the symbols don't look good in our software, I'll check
shareware graphics for similar symbols (another suggestion I received).

>We want to use two Wingdings symbols in our software. We can't guarantee
that our customers will have the Wingdings font (and we can't require them
to buy it). So, we'd like to take the symbols and insert them into our own
font using FontMonger. This will guarantee that customers can see the
symbols when they use our software.

>Our customers for the most part won't realize that the symbols are in the
font, so we doubt the symbols would be used for any other purpose.

>Does anyone know if this is a legitimate thing to do or would we be
breaking some copyright laws? You can post your responses to me directly.

>Thank you.
