Since many of you design Web sites or are otherwise familiar with
them, what exactly is a Webmaster? Is it a real title and if so, what
does it entail, or has this Webmaster person gone on a mad power trip?
And if it is a real title, isn't there a less Dungeons & Dragonish
title that could be used, such as site manager or administrator?

Yes, it's a real title. It applies to the person in charge of maintaining the
content, including links, of a web site.

Yes, you could select other titles for the same job. But why? It's a colorful
title, and usually the person who fills the job is anything but prosaic, so why
should the job title be ordinary?

If JCI had an opinion on this, they'd hire someone else to deliver it.
