Certificates and licenses are losing their perceived value, lately.
One reason is that people are starting to notice that many licenses
are simply tax stamps, and don't imply any standard of competence.

Obviously, the kind of certification we are talking about is one that
involves demonstrating qualifications, but the perceived value is still
reduced by association.
