Because their authors haven't learned how to work in the new medium yet.

Web slowness comes from two sources:

* Files that are too large to load quickly at your
transfer rate.

* Connection delays.

Long files have fewer connection delays, but in my experience connection
delays after the initial connection tend to be short, because the site's IP
address remains in the domain name server's cache.

Long files may contain parts, including large graphics, that you're not
interested in and would never load if they were in separate files. ...RM
