My Los Angeles-based company, The MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation, is STILL
seeking a new Documentation Manager. The primary qualification is the proven
ability to manage 10-15 people (including management of supervisors) in a
on-line publications function.
The position would require supervision of documentation personnel in both Los
Angeles and in Costa Mesa (Orange County), but would be based in Los Angeles
headquarters (Pasadena adjacent, for you Rose Parade fans). A complete

EDUCATION: B.A. or B.S. required. Engineering or other technical
degree is a plus.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 7-12 years experience managing people in the process
of creating high quality on-line and printed documents for software
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED:
Demonstrated strong leadership, people, writing, editing and project
management skills are required. Must be able to work extremely well with
other managers and subordinate staff members. Must have excellent
knowledge of all related future technologies such as augmentation on-line
documentation with video/audio and live documentation via the
World Wide Web.
Lead the company with a documentation staff of 12 people into the next
generation of on-line documentation and training products to support the use
of all of our software products.
Work with software development managers to plan and allocate resources to
documentation projects associated with each major product release. Most
documentation at the company is originated by our software development staff
then given to the documentation group for layout, editing, creation of on-line
hypertext links and final production and integration.
Merge two documentation groups working on separate products into a single
"core" products documentation group.
Working with product management, software development and product
production and delivery, define documentation development and production
procedures. Subsequently insure that all staff members are aware of
these procedures and that they are followed.
This position has two managers plus several other direct reports.
