Susan:

Boy, am I depressed now! You are complaining that you can't find tech
writers who will work for less than 70K. I'm simply trying to convince my
employer to turn my position into a permanent one (I've been classified as
temp for 2 years) and that the permanent classification should not be an
administrative position (i.e. one with a lower pay scale) but instead a
technical one (more in keeping with my actual duties). Currently the
departmental secretary makes more money than me, and she has
benefits. Would you like to call and complain to my boss about your
problem? It might give him the idea that he is getting me for a bargain!

Seriously though, it is really depressing to be sitting in a place that
considers tech writers to be a luxury. Most of the companies in town that
probably need one just give the job to a programmer or a netowrking
specialist (who are, by the way, paid well to do their REAL jobs). I guess
unless I'm willing to pick up and move to CA, I'm outta luck!

Hope you find someone soon!
