This may be a little on the technical side, but it might be worth
taking a peek at the following location:

This is the location for an article called How the Web Works: The
Anatomy of a Single Browser Selection, by Marc Reynolds.

I don't know if it's exactly what you're after, but I read it just the
other day, and found it valuable in explaining just what happens when
a user queries for info on the Web.
