a 16.7m color image, at 24-bit, is mathematically three
times larger

Another piece of techno-trivia: often it's *four* times larger than 256
color images, as most 24-bit systems are really 32-bit systems, using one
byte for each of red, green and blue along with a fourth byte of additional
information (which goes by many names, "alpha channel" being one of them).

Have fun,
