hard page breaks throughout a document that's a work in progress is
obviously a bad idea.

Hi Bob,

I noticed the same problem. Even after setting the Tools options to
repress space after a soft page break in Word 7,Word doesn't implememt
the option. Anybody have any ideas? Manually re-working each page by
either changing the paragraph format or by inserting breaks throughout
the doc is a poor solution.

Under Tools/Options/Compatibility, check both "Suppress extra line
spacing at top of page" and "Suppress Space Before after a hard page or
column break."
