Hi John --

Are these documents more along the lines of functional specs or user
guides? I manage a documentation group in an Information Technology
department, and our main job is writing user instructions for in-house
software.

I make it clear to our department that the technical writers in my group
are the only people who are allowed to write user documentation. I don't
pretend to be a computer programmer and I don't expect anyone else in
our department to be pretend to be a writer. If programmers write their
own documents, I don't see how you could control quality, revisions,
maintenance, etc.
