For a while we were looking at hiring an editor for our group.
Everyone I interviewed had samples of end things they said they had
edited. However, I would really have liked to see a sample of the
original, marked-up document and the corresponding pages from the
final document. To me, that is the best way to see how someone edits,
including such things as their style of markup and how much
developmental editing vs. copyediting they did.
