This is interesting, but I'm curious about experience levels. No entry
level
tech writer will get to $46,000 out here in Seattle (especially not by
me),
unless they contract. Even so, you need some experience to get that
first
contract. I know some senior writers who can't get to $46,000 with lots
of
experience. This list seems a little skewed.

Perhaps 46K seems off to us in Seattle, but it was stated as
representative of the whole West Coast. Surely TWs in Silicon Valley
make more than us because the standard of living there is higher, so
that would push the average up.

The previous company I worked for recently advertised for a 2nd TW (not
a Sr. position) for 40-45K.
