you should remember that Winword creates a low-res copy of any image *and
stores it*.

While playing take different images and convert them to the JPG and GIF
formats. You will find that a photo or scan should be handled quite
differently from a screenshot or line art.

Paintshop Pro (PSP412.ZIP on most servers) shoud do nicely for your
experiments...
