I too had this problem. My version of Netscape had an Acrobat plug-in
built in or something along those lines. When I opened a PDF file
through my browser, I couldn't search (i.e. the Acrobat Reader menu bar
wasn't shown) and Netscape's Edit..Find didn't work. To access Acrobat
Reader's search capabilities, I had to reconfigure Netscape to launch
the Acrobat Reader application and NOT use the built-in plug-in. Works
like a charm now. This might be your problem too.
