can you standardize postscript modules (level 2) in your printers, type 1 ps
fonts, and make sure you have ps drivers installed on your systems for all
the printers. then your output should be the same or very close across any
reasonable ps printer (probably 1995+). when you deal with pcl output to
printers (your plain command language for printers), and different apps to
generate postscript, and different levels of postscript, and different
printer descriptions, then you get all that hairy confusion. you can tell
your boss the only standard is ascii and that's not what your dealing with.

you might also want to tell your boss that all applications like frame or
word generate different postscript code (even with the same ps driver and ppd
(postscript printer description)) so that might give you some variation.

good luck, that whole area gets ugly!
