Send your resume to local temporary employment agencies that specialize in
technical placements...engineers, programmers, tech writers/editors, etc.
Send out a minimum of a dozen then follow up in 3-7 days with a phone call.
You should have no problem getting your first contract position, which will
probably be 3, 6, or 12 months. At the end of this time, the agency will
(likely) find another position for you if your contract is not extended
...or you can then begin to apply for direct jobs at companies you are
interested in. You can send copies of your resume and a cover letter to
various companies that you know use tech writers, or you can respond to a
classified ad for a tech writer (if you see one), but the easiest and
quickest way to start (in my opinion) this career is to do contract writing.
