Thanks to everyone who responded to my little dilemna. It was such an
easy answer, I thought I'd share it with those who might be interested.

Word has a "helpful" feature that replicates WordPerfect's habit of
asking for confirmation with a Command Y/N? response. Simply turn off
the WP user help options (there are two checkboxes) under Tools
->Options ->General.

The annoying request goes away and you are a happy little techwriter
again.
