Noncompete Clause

About 10 years ago, I signed a noncompete clause with an agency,
but it was far more limited than the situation Eric described. I
agreed not to seek work with one particular client, either as a
direct employee or as a contractor, for one year after leaving
the agency without the agency's consent. As it turns out, I went
to work for the client as a direct employee about two years
later with the agency's blessing. They didn't really have a
choice since they didn't want to tick off their biggest client.

To agree not to work for any of an agency's clients for two
years after leaving strikes me as an unreasonable restraint of
trade.
