The Department of Technical Communication at the University of Washington
is seeking to fill a one-year appointment at the assistant professor level
for the academic year 1998-99, with renewal possible contingent on
funding.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand in technical communication or a
related field. The successful candidate will be conversant with
contemporary rhetorical theory and will be able to teach such topics as
advanced technical writing, audience and task analysis, and problems and
issues in communicating technical and scientific information to lay
audiences. The Department of Technical Communication offers numerous
opportunities for collaborative research and publication, both with our
own faculty and with faculty in other departments of the University.
Candidates with a well-formed research agenda are particularly encouraged
to apply.

(The University of Washington reaffirms its policy of equal opportunity
regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual
orientation, age, marital status, disability, or status as a disabled
veteran or Vietnam era veteran.)

Prospective candidates may become acquainted with our department by
visiting our website at http://www.uwtc.washington.edu/. Also, I would be
happy to answer any questions that you may have.
