Making the leap

Howdy,

This is my plan for becoming a contractor. I am working in a
small company who really does not need a full time writer.
Since we are just creating a new software, I will have
plenty of work here for the next year or two. After that,
they will only need someone part-time. My boss has already
suggested I think about contracting at that time. They would
be my first client. Or, I might reduce my hours here and have
a small but steady income with which to start my business.
Either way it is the ideal situation for becoming a contractor.
It will be good for myself and for my company (that is important
to me).

I have considered making this move earlier and just get paid as
a contractor. (I meet all of the requirements of a contractor
vs. employee right now.) That would be better for me, but would
cost my company more and I cannot justify that. And they are
willing to give me training right now.

So, when the work starts winding down, we will evaluate the
situation and come up with a solution which will work for both
of us.

Good luck to those about to make the leap.
