Hello all,

Here's a new book that may be of interest to techwr-l members [I'm
quoting selections from its abstract here]:

************
Pinelli, T.E.; R.O. Barclay; J.M. Kennedy; and A.P. Bishop. (1997).
Knowledge Diffusion in the U.S. Aerospace Industry: Managing Knowledge for
Competitive Advantage. In two parts. Greenwich, CT: Ablex Publishing
Corporation. [ISBN 1-56750-225-3 ($157.00, cloth) 1-56750-226-1 ($85.00,
paper)]. [Foreword by Everett Rogers]. Ordering information: 203-661-0792,
ext. 3004; fax: 203-661-0792.

This book presents the results of a decade of work conducted under the
auspices of the NASA/DoD Aerospace Knowledge Diffusion Research Project.
Scholars involved in this project have examined multiple aspects of
knowledge diffusion--specifically, its production, transfer, and use--in
the large commercial aircraft (LCA) sector of the United States aerospace
industry. Considered a critical component of the U.S. industrial base,
this industry has been the beneficiary of federally funded research and
development (R&D) for nearly a century. However, little is known about how
the knowledge and technology resulting from these public expenditures
diffuse at the individual, organizational, national, and international
levels.

Scholars from a number of different disciplines including business and
strategic management; communications; economics; international political
economy; library and information science; organizational science and
learning theory; political science; public policy; science; technology,
and society; and sociology collaborated to produce this book. Chapters
within the book closely examine several aspects of knowledge diffusion
within a specialized technological community.

Individuals interested in knowledge as an intellectual asset and as a
source of innovation and competitiveness should find this book worthwhile.
It should broaden the view of students, serve as a valuable resource for
scholars and researchers, and help practitioners shape public policy and
manage knowledge.
