I just wanted to provide one helpful amplification to John's suggestion
to newbies:
Remember that there are multiple list archives on different servers with
different capabilities. The server for the archive at the site John
cites
has frequently had problems with its search engine being unavailable,
and this has led many listmembers to get lazy about even attempting
to search the archives. The archive at http://www.documentation.com/
on the other hand, has a reliable search engine.
In defense of the OK State archive I'll go on record as saying that it's
front-end is really nicely set up for browsing the archive (by date, by
thread, by author) rather than searching. I receive TECHWR-L in digest
mode, but use the archive in browse mode if I want to follow an active
thread in almost-real time.
