During slower times, I've done some volunteer work. Most volunteer
agencies really need the help and love to have a professional re-do an
old piece for them at no charge. This way, an agency gets the help they
need and you get a sample to show potential employers.

I am fairly picky when it comes to volunteering my time. So I do some
research and choose groups that need and will appreciate my work. These
are also people you can use for references down the road.

Good luck

Beth
