User Interface Engineering is looking for a new consultant.

If you're interested, please reply *directly* to Carolyn Snyder
mailto:csnyder -at- uie -dot- com

Thank you.

-------------------------------

We're looking for a unique individual to join us full time at User
Interface Engineering in our north suburban Boston office.
Responsibilities include teaching courses, consulting work with our
clients (including paper prototyping and usability testing of software
and web sites), writing articles, presenting at conferences, and more.
Some travel is required. This position does not directly involve
designing interfaces.

User Interface Engineering is one of the world's leading consulting
firms specializing in usability for software products and web sites.
In addition to consulting, we teach courses and conduct original
research on topics related to usability. We publish a bi-monthly
newsletter and hold an annual conference. See our web site at
http://www.uie.com for more information. We're an equal opportunity
employer.

Ok, enough about us. Let's talk about you.

Because we're an unconventional company, we seek an unconventional
person. You may be of any experience level with usability (including
none) but must have some form of hands-on experience in product or web
site development for a commercial organization, whether as a software
developer, technical writer, project manager, or marketing specialist.
We want someone who's worked in the real world and understands the
harsh realities of product development, but hasn't lost their
enthusiasm for creating better products.

Ideally, you have the following qualities: Strong oral and written
communication skills, a sense of humor, flexible, self-motivating,
organized, and creative. You're able to follow a project to completion
and you pay attention to detail. You have good people skills and the
ability to lead by persuasion rather than dominance. You're
comfortable with public speaking. You are reasonably proficient with
numbers (such as spreadsheets, budgets, and statistics). You like to
learn new things and aren't afraid to admit ignorance or ask for help.
You'd enjoy the challenges of working in a small, fast-paced, often
chaotic entrepreneurial environment, without all the structure and
resources of a large corporation. You understand that not all rewards
are financial - it's important to you to enjoy the type of work you do
and the people you're working with.

There is no specific background required - we will train the right
individual. Experience in any of the areas below is helpful, and you
must be willing to grow in these areas as well.

* Classroom teaching or public speaking
* Course development
* Dealing directly with customers (even waiting tables would count!)
* Sales and negotiating
* Marketing
* Finance, budgeting
* Usability testing
* Software/web site development
* Writing articles

If you're interested, briefly describe your experience in the above
areas (keeping in mind that "none" is an acceptable answer) and your
level of interest in learning more. Send us a resume if you have one,
but it's fine if you don't. But be sure to include your mailing
address and phone number.

Also, please answer the following questions:

1) How do you define success for yourself?
2) Why do you think you might want to work with us?
3) How do you feel about business travel?
4) Do you consider yourself a risk-taker?
5) Describe a day (or week) at your ideal job

And now your turn: What are 5 questions you have about our company or
this position?

Send your responses and any additional questions or information to
Carolyn Snyder at csnyder -at- uie -dot- com -dot-

Please, no phone calls or recruiters.
