An opportunity is coming available for a lone tech writer for a software
development firm in Tucson, Arizona.
Please drop me a line if you live in Tucson, are a good tech writer, and
are interested in:
- documenting applications from scratch, with no specs, but by using the
apps yourself and talking with engineers.
- having your own two test machines in addition to your PC, a Power Mac,
and of course Internet access.
- developing manuals in FrameMaker.
- developing online Help using RoboHELP.
- being in on the development process right from the beginning.
- possible opportunity to become technical publications manager when the
company grows.
- working with engineers who appreciate the value of tech writing and will
work with you as much as you need.
- working with engineers who welcome your feedback on interface design and
wording.
- working in an extremely informal environment, where you can wear shorts,
T-shirts and sandals year-round.
- working in the top floor of the tallest building in Tucson, in your own
office, desk by the window with great mountain views.
- excellent benefits, decent pay and quarterly profit-sharing checks.
- working independently.
- never being bored, never staying on one project more than a few months,
learning new products all the time.
- an opportunity to revive and run the once-thriving usability lab; good
equipment is here, but manpower is lacking.
- working with engineers who appreciate usability testing.
- managing the existing library of graphics and sales/marketing-related
files, and creating new ones if you can and want to.
- having an excellent boss who appreciates the value of tech writing; he is
a former software developer who is now general manager of the
Tucson/Florida communications software group.
- working with the most up-to-date equipment, e.g., Pentiums with big
monitors, lots of RAM, Windows NT/95/98.
- working with QA/test engineers who appreciate your input and also help
you understand the apps.
- working with a tech support dept. that takes the time to help you improve
the docs.
- working with great people, nice people, intelligent people.
This tech writer job opening has not been formally announced, but it will
soon become official. I've been given the OK to publish this information on
Techwr-l. If this might interest you, I would like to hear from you -- the
sooner the better! Let's talk.
Thanks,
Beth Kane
