Joe,

On my current project we're using RevisionMaster (http://www.diehlgraphsoft.com/products/RevisionMaster/). It's pretty easy to use, it suits our needs, and the price is not too steep.

I have used PVCS (http://www.microfocus.com/products/pvcs.htm) in the past--a 16-bit version that was hugely cumbersome. Maybe it's better now.

I guess either method would be better than storing the docs on zip disks and putting them under the mattress (along with all the cash we're saving for January 1900!).
