It's possible to mix landscape and portrait pages within a FrameMaker file,
but this is not without problems.

Problem 1: Page usage isn't linked to content in any way. If the pagination
changes, the landscape pages won't move with your diagrams.

Problem 2: PDF generation is more complicated. Landscape pages will get
cropped if you go through the normal Acrobat distillation process (unless
you pick a page setup that accommodates both page sizes -- like 11" x 17").
The other option is to manually delete the cropped pages and insert them as
landscape pages in Acrobat.

The way I'd go about it would be to rotate the diagrams and put them on
regular portrait pages. Having rotated graphics inside an anchored frame
isn't complicated, and if you need rotated regular text on the page too
(like a heading that needs to be picked up for the TOC, or for indexing),
you can have a rotated text frame inside your anchored frame as well.

There are some situations that will require additional tweaking to get
things in order, but by playing with the location of the anchor and the
Special>Anchored Frame settings, you should be able to get things to work.
It's a bit messy, and can be confusing with a bunch of nested frames, but it
does work!

Subject: Framemaker question

I am working on a developer's reference manual and I have no idea how to
use
portrait and landscape pages for one of my chapters. Essentially one
chapter
within my manual will describe several process flow diagrams and our
customer
wants the diagrams placed right before the actual text. This poses a problem
because our Framemaker lead says we have to create an entire chapter using
either portrait or landscape pages--- not both. I find this hard to believe
especially considering that Word has this functionality. Has anyone every
used
landscape and portrait pages within a single chapter of a book? If so,
please
let me know what I need to do.

Thanks for any help I can get!
