Yes. When a person checks the index, sometimes a definition is all he's
looking for. Also, some users never use, or even notice, glossaries. (Why
browse a glossary when there's a complete index?)
Examples:
If there's only one entry for the item, you'd enter it this way:
FQDN, defined.......3
If there's another index entry for that topic, you'd give this entry a level
2 modifier:
FQDN
defined............3
