For a few months I've been working with RWD's uPerform single-sourcing tool. It seems to have a lot of quirks. As a TC I understand tools have quirks; however, this is slowing us down substantially. When I ask the contractor representing uPeform, he doesn't give answers. He avoids all technical questions, such as how does the tranform file work, can we modify the xml in the file or in the transform file, etc. It seems very unprofessional to not share this type of information. I've never, in 13 years, had a vendor insist on keeping all of the technical information a secret. They usually work with the writers to help them be productive.
Has anyone out there used uPerform? If so, want to share work-around secrets (I just have a few though)?
Hoping to Help
Hi Candice,
I am a technical writer for the RWD uPerform product and am hoping that I can be of some assistance to you.
Do you have access to the RWD Product Support Center (at http://products.rwd.com) through your employer? I'm not sure if your employer is a licensed customer or if you are a contractor but you may be able to access the Product Support Center by finding out your employer's ID. The product support center contains manuals, tech specs and release notes, white papers, FAQs, discussion forums, and access to technical support.
In addition, help files can be accessed via the Help menu in the uPerform client. The help files contain all of the information found in the Creating Content and Managing Content user manuals. If you are looking for more administrative-type information, the Administration manual can be found in the documents folder located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\RWD\uPerform\version X.XX\documents. The manuals are also available via the help desk on the uPerform server, if you are logged in as an administrator.
Pleases let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Cindy Brown
