(Oh yes, I've done that, and much worse! My old bank had matching

I read a fascinating article yesterday about how incompetent people
rate their own performance highly. Studies were made where people performed
tasks, then rated their own performance. The least competent rated
themselves especially high. This lack of self-awareness likely perpetuates
their incompetence.
The most highly-competent tended to underrate themselves. This
changed, however, when they were asked to evaluate others. Their
self-evaluations usually went up after they'd witnessed others' performance.
Here's a chuckle: incompetent folks self-evaluations ALSO climbed after
observing others!
The folks in the middle accurately assessed themselves, BTW.
Perhaps some people aren't meant to become more effective, just to
be self-satisfied. Like being a cat, I guess. <g>
