Hi all

I'm being offered a 1099 tech writing position in downtown Denver. I've
never been to Denver before. I've contacted one person off the list who has
been to Denver, but...hey. If I go, I need a welcome committee! :-)

I was wondering what the cost of living is in Denver (I've checked out the
Homefair salary calculator, but there are no equivalents against which to
compare). I'm looking first for a one bedroom apartment. I have a dog and no
car.

I was also wondering what the average intermediate tech writer makes. I
looked at the STC Salary guide; is it really ~$35 K?

Do you think it's wise if I argue the agency down to six month's renewable
rather than a straight 12 month contract? What happens if I want to leave
early? Are there any weird convoluted things I should know about that I
don't, since I'm not American? I want to get the best deal possible, of
course.
It's a big move.

Is there anything else I should know before I make my decision?

Respond off list, please. Thanks!

Jane
