Paul asked how to describe what appears in a tabbed dialog once the user
selects a tab.

Paul, and others of you who might need to describe a GUI, if it is a Windows
application, you probably should have on hand the "Microsoft Manual of Style
for Technical Publications" (ISBN: 1572318902). The discussion in the manual
of dialog elements covers how to write about many GUI items, including
tabbed pages.

If you are heavily involved in interface discussions at your organization,
consider also purchasing (assuming a Windows environment again) "Microsoft
Windows User Experience: Official Guidelines for User Interface Developers
and Designers" (ISBN: 0735605661).

Not only will these books save you from waiting for replies from the list,
they'll help you stay consistent--and help you keep the developers in line.
