Generally, there are some very basic yet useful concepts used when doing
online documentation.
For instance:
- Decent font face and font size ( maybe color).
- Not more than 3 clicks to reach the desired information.
The above are some very basic principles to keep in mind.

Password access again depends on the kind of information you are providing.
If it is confidential to your company & your clients then it should be
password protected. But if it is available for general use, then maybe not.

writing for the web.
