Today they are telling them to expect 50-60k in the high tech areas such as
Dallas, Austin, and RTP and they are consistently getting it.

Another quick note:

Many of the top TW schools (perhaps unintentionally)
give writers false hopes for work after college. I was
told on several occasions (back in the early 1990's)
that I should expect $35k - $40k out of college. This
was in the Northeast USA, and they weren't pointing at
Boston or NYC (they mentioned more for these areas).
