>From a British base it used to be very lucrative to work the European
circuit. I've had three years in Germany and one year in Italy as part of my
so-called career. I know some others who have spent most of the last 30

The pay is not as good now as it used to be.

I believe it is relatively straightforward to get employment outside Europe

I spent a number of years working at one of the world's most mobile trades
-- teaching English as a second language. That let me travel to various
interesting places. Now I'm more sedentary, but I still wonder how easy
it might be for an Emglish-speaking tech writer to spend a few years in
any of the many fascinating places where English is not the main language.
