Emily,

You asked about pre-publication checklists for documents. Besides the items
you mentioned, there can be several things to check depending on your
organization's style. Some things might include checking for blank pages at
the end of chapters and applying special page formatting (such as making
these pages blank or having them not display running headers),
checking/adding index continuation lines, and of course checking for yucky
page breaks.

You might want to check out the lists in "Read Me First: A Style Guide for
the Computer Industry," Emily. (ISBN 0-13-455347-0) The back of the book has
several checklists and lists, including a Proofreading Checklist that would
probably correspond to the pre-publication checklist you're creating. It
would give you a good starting point, to which you could add additional
checklist items and more company-specific information.
