I can't tell if you're kidding or not.

If you're not, reading a book is not meant to be a contest with the book to see how quickly one can finish it; it's supposed to be a desire to access knowledge.

If I pick up a hundred-page book, take a moment or two to look
through the frontal matter, begin reading the first page
of the body of the book, and glance down to see that it's
page 10 rather than page 1, I'm delighted. I say "Page 10

If I look down and see page 1, I say "Rip off! I looked through
the table of contents to see what the book is about, I even
glanced at the acknowledgements, and you're telling me that
