While the following statements are true to some extent, you must remember that if you want these things (seminars and other programs) YOU must participate actively. YOU must ask for the seminars and programs that you find interesting. YOU must help facilitate their inception (this might include finding the speaker, the funding, the place to hold the event, etc.). YOU must attend the meetings and seminars.

I am very active in my local chapter, and I tire of hearing members complain about how they aren't getting their moneys worth. These members are the people who NEVER come to a meeting. NEVER offer to find speakers. NEVER offer to help find funding. NEVER offer to write an article for the newsletter. NEVER raise their voice except to complain. STC is what you make it. If you want it to be productive and worth your money, you have to put something into it. It's like I tell my nine-year-old daughter "There is nothing in life that is free. If you expect to sit back and do nothing, you will receive nothing in return. If you want it to happen, make it happen. Be proactive. Be adventurous. Be positive."

The value in the
STC comes from the local chapters. If the members are active and support
seminars and other programs, it is worth the money (IMHO). If they aren't
active, don't waste your money.
